Semi Gantry Crane

Semi Gantry Crane

There is bound to be some confusion when someone talks about a semi gantry crane, because for most people, a crane has to have a full gantry. However, a semi gantry crane is a single girder gantry crane or even an A type double girder crane. There is only one autonomous leg, because one side of the leg is the one that travels on the ground level. However, the other side is the end on which the bridge girder moves. This normally happens on the bracket track and it is the overall design that will allow you to save a lot of money in the long run. In addition, the design is such that it will save the amount of area that is required for operation and the space that the crane will take up.

As a matter of fact, the semi gantry crane forms a three dimensional work space because the hook can offer an up and down movement, the trolley provides a sideways movement, while the crane can travel back and forth. This means that this one crane can offer you not just normal lifting and moving, but also procedures such as overturning. Comprising a bridge frame, a trolley structure, a crane travelling mechanism and electrical components, the semi gantry crane finds application in a range of industries, both big and small.

The semi gantry crane is actually quite a cost effective solution when it comes in comparison with bridge cranes. A bridge crane will normally need a raised runway structure, which would be an additional investment for most industries. If you, however already have a bridge crane, then this type of crane would prove to be the perfect supplement, especially at the workstation level. What is great about the semi gantry cranes is the fact that they can be customised for indoor as well as outdoor operations and the capacities can vary from less than 10 tons to almost 400 tons! Customization is also possible in terms of control, because this type of crane can be controlled via radio controls or even a pendant traveling station. Even the electric hoist can be configured as per the specifications of the customer.

Some of the salient features of the semi gantry crane include:

  • The crane can operate very smoothly and with the acceleration and deceleration controls the swing movements can be controlled.
  • Because there is no counter weight, the inertia is also much lower, making this an extremely safe crane.
  • Most models have an electric braking system, making them safe and efficient.
  • The design is extremely compact, allowing for effective usage of space and the lower weight also reduces the stress on the actual structure
