Electric Hoist Gantry Crane

The requirement of each industry is different, which is why there are a range of cranes, each of which serve a unique purpose. The electric hoist gantry crane is typically a light type gantry crane, which works on the CD electric hoist or MD electric hoist mechanism. It is through the lifting mechanism that the electric hoist is able to move things up and down. However, it is the trolley that moves the equipment from left to right, while the crane enables the back and forth movements. The idea behind this crane is that the multiple movements can be attained through just one machine – this includes easier and efficient movement, along with flipping and lifting of objects.

An electric hoist gantry crane is actually a single girder gantry crane, which can be categorised separately based on the leg shape. Normally, there is an L-type and an A-type, and as mentioned, the distinguishing can be done, based on the leg shape. The crane is actually quite light weight, which is why it is a popular choice for several industries, such as docks, freight yards, warehouses and even construction sites. The mechanism that forms the basis of the crane is actually quite simple, which is why operating it is also reasonably easy. While the crane is normally used outdoors, most companies do offer a rain cover to ensure that the crane is protected against the elements of nature.

The electric hoist gantry crane has mainly four parts:

  • The electrical control system – There are mainly three modes, namely frequency control, direct control and string resistance startup. The power supply comes from safety slide wires, soft cables, regular cables and cable drums. The mechanism can be operated from the ground, via remote control or through the cabin, in which someone will have to sit and operate the entire system.
  • The gantry frame structure – The gantry is perhaps the most complicated of all structures of this crane. It consists of a main and a ground beam, legs, a ladder platform and a cabin for the driver, amongst others. It is the main beam that carries the hoist crane as well as the track of the hanging hoist. Normally, both ends of the beam have a buffer, because that is what ensures the smooth running of the trolley.
  • The crane traveling mechanism – This unit has a running motor and a gear along with a wheel set and several other components. Depending on the tonnage being lifted, it is often categorised into A type and B type. The entire set is designed to be simplistic in structure, be safe in operation, easy to install and maintain and emit minimal noise.
  • The electric hoists lifting mechanism - This is perhaps the heart of the crane, because this is the mechanism by which products and equipment are lifted and moved from one place to another.

There are also electrical protection systems, which ensure that if there is a short circuit or low voltage or any other such similar problem, it is taken care of.
